Hardware matters. Invest in a faster PC and Microsoft Access databases will run faster. Be alert for sellers packaging fast processors with minimal memory and a slow hard drive to keep prices low. Look at all aspects of the purchase when database speed is a priority. A faster hard drive is worth the investment and more memory will help!
Use a client PC with a minimum of the following: 1 gig of ram, 1.5 gigahertz processor, and the fastest hard drive available.
Use a server PC with a minimum of the following: 2-4 gigs of ram, 3.0 gigahertz processor, and multiple fast hard drives.
Use one of the server PC hard drives as the dedicated disk for any back-end databases.
